Lajo’s peatlands

Born thousands of years ago, peatlands are complex and fascinating environments ! Indeed, they shelter plant and animal species accustomed to extreme conditions. From sundews to sphagnum moss and dwarf birches, all of them “survivor” remains from the last glaciation.

A few kilometers from Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole, deep inside a Natura 2000 classified zone on the heights of the Margeride, the peatlands of Lajo hide many secrets…

There, trails will allow you to discover the peatlands through a 3 to 6 km walk from the Lajo village. For the most curious ones, a 5€ guidebook can be purchased at any of our 3 Tourist Information Centers.
